Learning to drive with learning difficulties can be a very daunting feeling, however with the right approach and GDI Driving School that has firsthand experience of teaching pupils with these conditions the learning process can be made a lot less stressful. Throughout the individual’s ‘journey’ in learning to drive, aspects of Dyslexia, Dyspraxia or ADHD should be positively looked for in order to provide the required support. Many adults do not know they are dyslexic or have any learning difficulties as it was not identified when they were at school.
They say it may take the dyslexic or dyspraxia pupil longer to learn to drive, and they may need more than one attempt to pass the practical test it is NOT always the case with GDI Driving School.
The key is to use multi sensory learning and to ensure that new information or skills are heavily embedded. For example, if someone has poor visual memory, then use their auditory or tactile memory to compensate. They are likely to need lots of reinforcement to embed learning from the short term memory but most dyslexic people have excellent long term memories so they need to be able to make use of this.

Learning to drive while feeling Nervous or Anxious can be a very daunting feeling, however with the right approach and GDI Driving School that has firsthand experience of teaching pupils with these conditions the learning process can be made a lot less stressful.
Many people who learn to drive have a combination of nerves and excitement. Even if someone says they have no nerves and are perfectly confident when it comes to driving, the first time you get behind the wheel and move the vehicle you are bound to feel nervous, and possibly as mentioned some excitement.
Sometimes people tell themselves that they are nervous and expect to be nervous, and this gets the better of them. The main cause of nerves is not feeling in control, or worrying about your own ability. So it is essential to remember that no-one is able to drive safely from day one – that’s the point of lessons, gradually getting better as you build up experience at driving on the roads, getting used to the car, the controls, the space around the car, road conditions, reacting to other drivers, learning to control the vehicle through use of the gears, using the mirrors, signalling, reversing and so on and so forth.

We use a B-D-P system
(Briefing, Diagram and then Practice)
With our lessons you would have covered every aspect of driving; early morning rush hour, evening rush hour, night driving, rain, fog, ice and maybe even snow. We like to put you through them all because once you pass your test you will have to drive in them all. You will be equipped.
We have visual aids that break down every part of any manoeuvre into stages for all aspects of driving as we find the best way to learn is to:
Be Told How To Do It, Be Shown How To Do It, Then Do It
Your instructor will keep a record card so you know you have covered every part of driving, on what date, what work was covered in the last lesson and what will be re-assessed at the beginning of the next lesson.
We have developed an extensive knowledge of the Surrey and Hampshire roads allowing us to cover driving tuition that covers all the various Guildford and Aldershot/Farnborough test routes. We will go over them but will not follow them so you don’t just learn the test routes.
One of the best ways to keep the Driving lessons required to a minimum is to ensure that you have regular Driving lessons. If you can afford more, it would help you learn at a faster pace. The Driving lesson length can also affect how many hours you require, personally we would recommend the 2 hour Driving lesson option at least once or twice a week. Obviously this is not going to be ideal for everyone. This is why we have a wide range of Driving lessons options available to suit you.

At Dunsfold Park Aerodrome Young Drivers off road track in Dunsfold near Guildford, Surrey.
Under age driving lessons – under 17 driving lessons are for pupils from the age of 14, 15, 16 years old. Under age driving lessons for 1 or party groups of up to 12. Driving lessons for 2, 4, 6 hours or All day. Pupils must be able to read a number plate with or without glasses at a distance of 20.5m No provisional licence needed.
